Developments from Week 43
- The Berlin University Alliance celebrated its 6th birthday on November 1, 2025. To mark the occasion, it published a video series on social media, “Faces of the Berlin University Alliance,” featuring key players from the association and its partners—FU (Freie Universität), HU (Humboldt-Universität), TU (Technische Universität), and Charité—speaking positively about the BUA.
- Expert Commission on Competition and AI: The first of five meetings of the 15-member expert commission “Competition and Artificial Intelligence,” established by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE), took place on October 27. This session’s topic was “Efficient AI Infrastructure and Digital Sovereignty.” The commission is developing recommendations for action on central issues at the intersection of competition and Artificial Intelligence.
- The Berlin Science Week is taking place for the tenth time from November 1 to 10. The Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin is also represented with exhibitions, guided tours, installations, workshops, and the Humboldt Children’s University. This year’s motto is “Beyond now,” which includes the question of how science can help open up new perspectives for the future of science and society in times of change.
- EU Launches Multi-Billion Initiative: The EU is launching a multi-billion-euro initiative with the foundation of the Scaleup Europe Fund. The Commission is collaborating with the European Investment Bank and leading European investors. The initiative is intended to improve Europe’s technological leadership, support the best deep-tech companies, and anchor innovation in Europe. The fund is part of the Startup and Scaleup Strategy, which aims to build a dynamic and competitive startup and scaleup ecosystem in Europe.
